European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied sciences and Engineering (ECCOMAS) is an organization established in 1992. It was established with the aim of bringing together organizations with similar interests in computational mechanics.
The three core scientific events run by ECCOMAS are the ECCM (ECCOMAS Conference on Computational Solid and Structural Mechanics), ECCOMAS Congress, and the ECFD (ECCOMAS Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics).
ECCOMAS Congress is the major event among the three bringing together a large group of interests, including engineers and scientists in Europe and from other regions.
The objective of the Congress is to provide a platform for discussion and presentation of new developments in computing in relation to engineering sciences. The focus is equally shared on the core principles of methodologies, industrial applications, and scientific developments.
European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied sciences and Engineering (ECCOMAS) is an organization established in 1992.
The ECCOMAS Congress presentations include lectures, special technical sessions, and contributions from the industry, academia, researchers and universities. You’d find the proceedings of the Congress all around Europe as they are widely disseminated.
The congress comes up every four years in different cities across Europe. Joint congress is sometimes organized between ECCOMAS and IACM, the two well-known bodies of computational mechanics.
Cities Where Previous Editions Where Held
Seven editions of the Congress have been held in different cities beginning from 1992 when the organization was formed. These are:
1st ECCOMAS
Brussels, Belgium, 1992
Brussels is the capital of Belgium. Brussels-capital province is an area with 19 municipalities. It has about 1.3 million inhabitants.

7th ECCOMAS
Crete, Greece, 2016
Crete is Greece’s largest Island. A place of varied terrains, Crete is home to historic caves and museums that showcase the history.
It is important to state that ECCM and ECFD are both major organizations under the European region which ECCOMAS overseas. In some congresses you may find ECCOMAS conferences tagged ECCM – ECFD congress. These are congress hosted by ECCOMAS.
Upcoming Congress On ECCOMAS
The next edition of ECCOMAS Congress in 2020 is a joint organization between the 14th WCCM and ECCOMAS Congress in Paris, France. It is slated to start from July 19 – 24 2020.
ECCOMAS as an organization has long been a strong support for conferences on computational mechanics in the European region.
ECCOMAS Congresses are well attended by professionals from universities, research institutions and scientists from Europe and all over the globe. It promises to be another period to showcase new developments and discoveries in computational mechanics.
